Martins Sea Fresh Fish Shop
This site was created as a direct result of the interest expressed by
many holiday visitors in the overnight delivery of fish all over the UK. We have
pages on the buying and storage of fresh fish, preparation,
filleting and cooking
with a separate section of recipes
and a page of recommendations on how to look after Frozen
Foods. We have a Fishing section
which gives general information on fishing for pleasure around the Newquay area
and the coast of Cornwall which will be expanded as time permits.
- One of our first boats. The " St. Stanislas "
Bought second hand from France, as were many Cornish fishing boats.
She served us well for several years. Three crew working five day trips,
"the good old days ?? "
As a fishing family we have always had fresh fish available to us and
could never understand why fish had lost it's popularity. Having
investigated what is on general sale, we decided that it was time more
people had the chance of eating fish as it should be, so we converted our
shop into a Fishmongers, with help and advice from the "Seafish
Industry Authority".
- As with any fresh food,
fresh fish
deteriorates in texture and flavour, from the time it was first
harvested, till it reaches the table, even stored under perfect conditions
and it's Nutritional value declines, so it is
worth buying the best.
- We aim to minimize that time by cutting out the
middle men, so that our customers can appreciate the finest fish at it's
best, and our policy is that we will not knowingly sell anything I
wouldn't eat myself. After 30 years fishing for a living, it has to be
good, and our customers agree with me.
Our stock of fish is kept to a minimum level, though this can cause
problems if the weather prevents fishing for a time, we feel it is
better that we run out of fish than to sell old stock. We also track
the market prices, which means that if there is a surplus or a glut of
fish, we pass on the benefit of the low prices to the customers. See our News
page for the latest news, usually updated weekly. The snag is of course at
times the prices also rise and though we will not necessarily have the
cheapest fish, the quality will remain amongst the best available.
- We have live Lobsters and crabs
in our own storage tanks, and can usually get further supplies from store
pots in Newquay bay. Oysters and Mussels
come from the Fowey Sea Farm.

We must be doing something right
AS SEEN ON TV.
Yes it's true, the BBC "Food and Drink" program said:-
"this is online shopping that works, best quality fish without
leaving my armchair" as their reporter tucked into our fish.
The "Sunday Times" supplement said:-
"The site is much more than selling Fish. It can tell you how to look after
it, cook it and prepare items such as Shellfish. Jeff has succeeded in making
a sound case for buying Fish online. His fish comes straight from the sea,
and you can pay just as much to get a delivery from the supermarket down the
road."
Channel 5 Featured us on their 6 o'clock News, a full
day's filming for 6 minutes of air time. Their report followed one on the power
the Supermarkets were using over both their suppliers and customers. Our feature
was to illustrate that even the small business can fight back, and in our
case the speed at which the fish can reach your table after being caught is
unique.
